Encouraging Little Victories
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
We are told to build each other up daily - Encouraging Little Victories. I received those three words from my oldest son and recently wrote a poem for a new card that’s about to be released. I’m convinced this is why the enemy works so hard to try and ISOLATE us from one another and encouragement. It’s also why God says to not forsake the “assembling of ourselves together” for equipping.
Assembling together happens most readily and continually at church each week. We are to gather for worship and praise; to be equipped from the gifts of the 5-fold ministry. It’s hard to understate how important this is and yet, it’s not the only thing we need. We need daily encouragement on the front lines in our everyday lives. We are to take the equipping and, as the saints or children of God, we need to built up and encourage one another. Our ministry as laymen is not “in place of” the 5 fold ministry, it’s “equipped by” to do our part.
Last night my youngest son came to talk to me. He’s been working hard and believing God for some big goals in his life. He said, “Sometimes it feels like you’re not making any progress, but I know to just keep doing what I know to do.” I told him that though God doesn’t take you OUT of things you’re supposed to be walking THROUGH, He’s never failed to bring me encouragement when I’ve asked for it. I encouraged him to do the same. When it feels like all the effort is not yielding the gains you want or expect, ask God to encourage you to stay the course. It’s coming! “And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9).
I wrote THE WAIT for times just like this. I encourage you to read it if you’re in this season.
